ADL: 'I called Allegri first'

President Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed he contacted Max Allegri before he appointed Gennaro Gattuso and believes Napoli can advance in the Champions League.

After a difficult start to the campaign, Gattuso was appointed as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor in December and has slowly helped revitalise the Partenopei.

On Wednesday, the coach picked up his first trophy in the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus but the President has revealed that he had initially contacted the former Bianconeri coach Allegri about the job.

Kessie: 'Milan must do better at Lecce'

Franck Kessie warns Milan ‘must do much better than we did against Juventus’ if they are to beat Lecce in the Serie A comeback match.

The Rossoneri went out of the Coppa Italia semi-final on away goals to Juventus, but resume their Serie A season next week against Lecce.

“It’s going to be a very complicated game, so we must do much better than we did against Juve,” Kessie told Sport Mediaset. “Lecce are on home turf and really fired up.

Hysaj agent: 'Napoli have changed'

Elseid Hysaj had been all set to leave Napoli this summer, but his agent admits ‘things have changed under Gennaro Gattuso’ after they won the Coppa Italia.

The Albania international was determined to walk away and had been threatening an exit for several months.

However, the change in management from Carlo Ancelotti to Gattuso in December, adjustment of tactics and success on the pitch with the Coppa Italia trophy seem to have all contributed to a change of heart.

ADL: 'Gattuso helped me forget about the fines'

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis claims the incident during the first half of the campaign is ‘just a bad memory’ after the Coppa Italia success.

The season started turbulent for the Partenopei, who struggled to pick up the required points to fight for a place among the top four in Serie A.

A retreat-non-retreat episode under Carlo Ancelotti split the San Paolo and the patron decided to hand out fines to the players who protested his decisions.

Credit to coach Rino Gattuso

Napoli ultimately deserved the Coppa Italia, writes Giancarlo Rinaldi, as Gennaro Gattuso has given them an identity where Maurizio Sarri still has not for Juventus.

There was not a lot of social-distancing at the full-time whistle, but we will forgive them for that. At the end of a unique Coppa Italia Final, the Napoli players were surely allowed to let their emotions get the better of them. And only the hardest heart could have begrudged Rino Gattuso this victory so soon after the tragic death of his sister. Some things - we have learned of late - are bigger than football.

ADL: 'Everything changed with Gattuso'

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis insists their Coppa Italia triumph against Juventus was ‘in the air, as many things changed since Gennaro Gattuso arrived.’

The match ended 0-0 on the night in Rome, thanks largely to Gigi Buffon heroics and the woodwork, but the Partenopei won on penalties for their sixth Coppa trophy.

Gattuso: 'I believe in the God of Football'

Gennaro Gattuso praised his Napoli players for their Coppa Italia victory on penalties against Juventus. ‘I believe in the God of Football, you reap what you sow.’

This is the first piece of silverware that Gattuso has ever won as a coach, especially as he only took over from sacked Carlo Ancelotti in December.

It has been a truly traumatic month for Rino, whose sister died after a long illness.

Rino's resurrection of Napoli

From chaos to the Coppa Italia Final, Richard Hall wonders if Gennaro Gattuso can beat Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus with his very own Napoli style.

Napoli fired Carlo Ancelotti in December just hours after securing a place in the Champions League Round of 16. Now they are poised to beat their previous tactician and old rivals with potentially their first silverware in six years. It’s quite the movie that the Partenopei have plotted out, now to see how it ends.

Gattuso: 'Respect Juve, use Napoli strengths'

Gennaro Gattuso wants Napoli to ‘respect Juventus, but play to our strengths’ in the Coppa Italia Final, though he won’t let Hirving Lozano ‘ruin’ training with a bad attitude.

It kicks off in Rome tomorrow at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) behind closed doors.

If the result is not decided after 90 minutes, the teams will skip extra time and go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

Report: Gattuso loses patience with Lozano

Napoli outcast Hirving Lozano was reportedly removed from the training ground by coach Gennaro Gattuso during the preparation for the Coppa Italia Final.

The Partenopei coach is playing for his first trophy as a coach but the Corriere dello Sport focused on the situation regarding Mexican Lozano one day before the big Final against Juventus.

Lozano has been frozen out for several months and the former Milan coach has reportedly decided to exclude the former PSV Eindhoven forward for technical reasons.
