‘Conte best choice for Italy’

Alessandro Costacurta admits he wants Chelsea manager Antonio Conte for Italy CT - “among the potential candidates, he’d be best”.

The former Milan defender has been appointed as sub-commissioner of the FIGC, and part of his role is finding a replacement for Giampiero Ventura.

Luigi Di Biagio is in caretaker charge, while other candidates include Carlo Ancelotti, Claudio Ranieri and Roberto Mancini.

However, Costacurta wants to see Conte return to the role.

Gattuso ‘annoyed’ by Rome snow

Gennaro Gattuso admits he is “a bit annoyed” by Milan being forced to train indoors for their Coppa Italia semi-final with Lazio on Wednesday due to snow.

Heavy snowfall has forced Milan to use a hotel’s gym facilities for training, while Lazio’s Formello base was completely blanketed, leaving them unable to work out at the complex until Tuesday.

“We must keep this level of performance up. Now we’re focused on Wednesday,” the Coach told Milan TV, referring to his side’s 2-0 win at Roma on Sunday.

Calabria: Gattuso a winner, Montella…

Davide Calabria claims Gennaro Gattuso is giving Milan “a winning mentality” and is the next to criticise Vincenzo Montella. “We were lacking fitness.”

Calabria’s chip helped Milan beat Roma 2-0 on Sunday night, marking the Rossoneri’s 12 consecutive game without a defeat under Gattuso, who replaced Montella at the end of last year.

“Gattuso has a winning mentality, he doesn’t neglect the smallest detail,” the full-back told Premium Sport.

Zoff: ‘Gattuso astounded me’

Dino Zoff says Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso is “very much astounding me” after the recent run of good results.

The Rossoneri are back in Champions League contention after six wins in seven Serie A games, culminating with last night’s 2-0 win over Roma.

“Gattuso is very much astounding me,” Zoff told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“He’s managed to give the Rossoneri an identity. I don’t know if they have the strength to continue at these levels, but Milan are a team that knows what to do now.

Fassone: ‘Gattuso surprising Milan’

Marco Fassone “maybe even we didn’t expect” Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso to have such a positive impact.

The Rossoneri sacked Vincenzo Montella in November, promoting the former midfielder from his role as Primavera coach.

Last night’s win over Roma took Ringhio’s winning run to five in all competitions, putting the Diavolo back in contention for a Champions League spot.

“Gattuso has done the simple things that a Coach with more experience than him would have done,” Fassone told Radio Anch’io Sport.

So wrong on Gattuso

Even the most optimistic of Milan fans didn't think Gennaro Gattuso would transform them tactically as well as psychologically, writes Susy Campanale.

Did not see that coming. Gennaro Gattuso’s sudden revitalisation of a Milan that looked lost under Vincenzo Montella. The very fact Ringhio has become a fine tactician as well as a leader who would give the players both metaphorical and literal kicks up the backside. That Davide Calabria of all people could score his first professional goal with a delicate chip over the best ‘keeper in Serie A right now.

Gattuso: 'Milan were too predictable'

Gennaro Gattuso reveals what he changed at half-time as Milan pushed past Roma 2-0 at the Olimpico. “We were too predictable.”

The Rossoneri are now unbeaten in 12 competitive games and have closed the gap on fourth placed Inter – who they face next week - to seven points.

Gattuso’s half-time team talk must’ve done wonders, because they came out fighting after the break, scoring through Patrick Cutrone and Davide Calabria.
