Gattuso names Milan squad

Gennaro Gattuso has named his Milan squad to face Atalanta tomorrow, with Alessio Romagnoli and Suso both suspended.

Milan: ‘Berlusconi? No comment…’

Milan have responded to Silvio Berlusconi’s comments, noting that they will not “judge” or comment.

The former owner said yesterday that Coach Gennaro Gattuso should play with strikers, complaining that he could “hardly watch” the Rossoneri.

“With regard to the statements of Silvio Berlusconi, we note what is right to do on a sporting and institutional level,” the club responded via the Press review section on their official website.

Berlusconi: ‘Play two strikers!’

Silvio Berlusconi says he can “hardly watch” Milan at times, urging Gennaro Gattuso to play with two strikers.

The former Rossoneri owner is well known for insisting on two up-front, with Carlo Ancelotti often starting with the appearance of two forwards before moving one wide, just to appease Il Cavaliere.

“I’m the former President, but I remain a big Milan fan,” Berlusconi told Premium Sport today.

Report: Gattuso threatened resignation

A Mediaset journalist claims Gennaro Gattuso threatened to resign after Milan’s defeat to Verona yesterday.

The Rossoneri were thrashed 3-0 by the relegation strugglers, and the squad was placed into ‘ritiro’ today, essentially a punishment training camp.

However, Mediaset’s Guglielmo Mastroianni claims that the Coach was so incensed with the relaxed nature of his players after the game, he actually went to Casa Milan to resign.

Milan recall relegation season

Milan’s seven defeats this season is the same number as at this point in their relegation season of 1981-82.

The Rossoneri were thrashed 3-0 by Verona yesterday, a result which leaves them 14 points off the Champions League places and only 10 off the relegation zone.

While they won’t be relegated, Premium Sport notes that the Diavolo have lost seven times already, a similar record to the one they had at this stage in the year they were relegated.

Happy Birthday AC Milan!

On this day in 1899, Italy's most successful European side, AC Milan, was founded.

The club was created by two English expats, Alfred Edwards and Herbert Kilpin, using the English name for the city rather than the Italian, Milano.

Kilpin was the club's first captain and gave the Rossoneri their famous red and black stripes "to strike fear into our opponents".

Milan won three league titles in the early years of the club, including back-to-back triumphs in 1906 and 1907.
