Pioli: ‘Milan game is important’

Stefano Pioli says the game with Milan is “important” for Fiorentina, and believes the Rossoneri are better than their position would suggest.

The two sides meet tomorrow at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, and the Diavolo will go above the Viola if they win.

“We have so much desire and enthusiasm,” Pioli told reporters in his pre-match Press conference.

“I can’t judge the trend of Milan’s season, because I don’t know them well enough.

The Borini era

Fabio Borini has been one of Milan’s star performers this season, but Elio Salerno worries what that says about the Rossoneri.

When the unsurprising news filtered through of Ricky Kaka’s retirement from football, his former club Milan were fresh off the back of another embarrassing defeat, this time a 3-0 humbling at the hands of lowly Hellas Verona which saw the Milan club’s campaign hit a new low.

Gattuso: Chain the President!

Gennaro Gattuso has joked that Milan will ‘chain’ President Li Yonghong to Malpensa airport after he watched the side beat Inter in the Coppa Italia.

Milan continued their unbeaten run with Li in attendance during their 1-0 win against Inter after extra-time, prompting Gattuso to make the unorthodox demand, while also singling out midfielders Hakan Calhanoglu and Lucas Biglia.

Gattuso: 'Milan breathing room'

Gennaro Gattuso warns Milan’s Coppa Italia success against Inter “does not resolve all our problems, but it does give us breathing room.”

A goal in extra time from teenage striker Patrick Cutrone proved enough to beat Inter and set up a Coppa Italia Semi-Final appointment with Lazio in January and February.

“We were coming off a negative period, so this game was fundamental,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

Mancini on Milan radar?

Roberto Mancini is reportedly unhappy with life at Zenit St Petersburg and could return to Italy as the Coach of Milan.

Sombre mood in Milan

The season started so brightly for the two San Siro sides, but going into the Coppa Italia derby, the mood in Milan has turned sour, writes Richard Hall.

Before Alberto Brignoli, Milan still had some hope. Before Udinese visited San Siro, Inter were still allowed to dream. Perhaps the fans of both teams should have known better, after all Gennaro Gattuso was always going to be limited and the Nerazzurri are still Pazza, even if Luciano Spalletti has managed to make them look sane.

So, this is Christmas in Milan and what have they done, both teams had been allowed to dream throughout the season and yet as the end of the year draws close, they have these hopes have been dashed.

The Rossoneri are sliding down the Serie A table, losing 2-0 to Atalanta despite a week-long training retreat, and the Coppa might be their best chance of qualifying for Europe.
