‘Stadium project could advance quickly’

Inter’s CEO feels “there are all the conditions to be able to proceed quickly” on the shared stadium project with Milan.

The two clubs have agreed to share the cost of developing a state-of-the-art stadium, which is likely to entail renovating San Siro over a four year period.

While theoretically they could build an entirely new arena, the most likely option is for both to remain at the Meazza, but with a complete makeover.

Milan clubs plan San Siro renovation

It’s believed Milan and Inter’s priority is a €200m renovation of San Siro, reducing the capacity and adding commercial space.

Last week the two clubs officially confirmed that they are exploring options for a shared stadium project, likely a redevelopment of the Giuseppe Meazza.

Now Il Sole 24 Ore confirms that the intention is to lease the land from the city council for 99 years, rather than renting the stadium.

Zhang: ‘Inter and Milan should share’

Following yesterday’s comments by Milan President Paolo Scaroni, Inter’s Steven Zhang declares “the most sensible thing” is to share San Siro.

The two sides have both played at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza since 1947, and they currently both rent it from the city council.

The Rossoneri abandoned a plan to build a new arena, and in recent weeks it has been reported that talks are taking place to take out a joint 99 year lease.

‘Milan stadium decision this year’

Milan hope to make “a final decision” on their stadium situation by the end of the year, President Paolo Scaroni confirms.

The Rossoneri held their shareholders’ meeting today, and the issue of whether they’ll stay at San Siro or seek to build their own ground was raised.

Nainggolan: ‘Inter feel fan presence’

Radja Nainggolan reflects on his “difficult” upbringing, and says it’s “important for me” to be at Inter.

The midfielder left Roma to join the Nerazzurri this summer, but that was only the latest upheaval in a life full of them.

“My past was difficult, I left Belgium at the age of 16,” Nainggolan explained in Inter’s match programme.

“That's why I want to make sure my children are happy. I always tell youngsters to play with freedom, because that’s what makes the difference.

The football capital of the world

This weekend sees Inter and Milan meet in the 222nd Derby della Madonnina, and Gaby McKay looks back on the history of the fixture.

In 1907, Milan became Italian champions for the third time in their nascent history. Long before the advent of Serie A, the nation’s top teams played in regional leagues before qualifying for a final round-robin style tournament.

Having become Italian champions the season before, the Rossoneri retained their title by finishing above Torino and Andrea Doria, the latter of which merged with Sampierdarenese to form Sampdoria in 1946.
