Petrachi: 'Confusion in Inter hierarchy'

Roma director of sport Gianluca Petrachi has spoken about the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the Leonardo Spinazzola-Matteo Politano deal. “There was confusion in the Inter hierarchy.”

The swap deal seemed all but complete, with both players taking their medicals at Inter and Roma respectively, before the deal was cancelled due to Inter changing the formula of Spinazzola’s loan deal.

Pellegrini the new No10?

Roma are reportedly ready to promise Lorenzo Pellegrini the No10 shirt and the captain’s armband if he signs a new contract to remove a release clause in his current deal.

The former Sassuolo player is tied to the club until 2022 but has a €30m release clause in his deal, making him an obvious target for the biggest clubs in Europe.

The 23-year-old is born in Rome and left the Giallorossi academy in 2015, but was brought back to the capital only two seasons later.

Roma swap deal for Calhanoglu?

Roma are reportedly trying to bring Hakan Calhanoglu to the Italian capital, discussing a possible swap deal with Milan.

The Corriere dello Sport claims sporting directors Ricky Massara and Gianluca Petrachi have held talks over a player exchange.

Calhanoglu is said to have recently asked Milan for a new contract and seems to be in no rush to leave the club.

Roma revive Mariano Diaz bid

Roma are not just interested in Everton striker Moise Kean, according to the latest reports, but also reviving an approach for Real Madrid man Mariano Diaz.

Man United want €18m for Smalling

Manchester United are demanding €18m from Roma to make defender Chris Smalling's loan permanent, according to Tuttosport.

Smalling made the switch to the Eternal City in the summer, and has been one of the best defenders in Serie A this season.

The Turin daily reports that United are requesting €18m to sign the centre back outright at the end of the campaign.

However, Roma DS Gianluca Petrachi is working to bring the price tag down.

Smalling is said to be more than open to the idea of remaining at Roma on a permanent basis.

Fonseca hails Smalling impact

Roma boss Paulo Fonseca has hailed Chris Smalling’s impact since signing from Manchester United. “He’s a great player and very important.”

Smalling has quickly established himself in Roma’s defence and scored his first goal for the club midweek during the 4-0 win at Udinese.

Petrachi sorry for ‘little girls’ remark

Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi has apologised for describing football as “a man’s game, not a ballet class for little girls.”

Petrachi made the comments after Roma’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari on Sunday, when Nikola Kalinic had a goal chalked off for appearing to shove Fabio Pisacane.
