Quagliarella: 'Always keep that memory'

Fabio Quagliarella thanked his Italy teammates for allowing him to take the historic penalties. “The standing ovation is a memory I will always take with me.”

The Sampdoria striker converted a pair of spot-kicks in the 6-0 victory over Liechtenstein, making him the oldest ever goalscorer for the Nazionale, aged 36 years and 54 days.

Italy run of 18 different scorers ends

Fabio Quagliarella scored finally ended the run of 18 Italy goals scored by 18 different players with his brace against Liechtenstein.

The Sampdoria striker found the net with two penalties in this evening’s Euro 2020 qualifier in Parma.

Until that second spot-kick, the Azzurri’s previous 18 goals came from 18 different scorers, stretching back to the last time they faced Liechtenstein on June 11, 2017.

Quagliarella is oldest ever Italy scorer

Fabio Quagliarella has made history as the oldest ever player to score in an Italy jersey, aged 36 years and 54 days.

The Sampdoria striker and current Serie A Capocannoniere converted a penalty against Liechtenstein in this evening’s Euro 2020 qualifier at the Stadio Tardini in Parma.

He achieved this feat at the age of 36 years and 54 days, setting a new all-time record for the Nazionale.

Quagliarella set for Italy record

Fabio Quagliarella is expected to start his first competitive Italy match for almost 10 years when they host Liechtenstein and could make history as the oldest Azzurri scorer.

The Euro 2020 qualifier kicks off at 19.45 GMT in Parma.

It’s widely reported the current Serie A Capocannoniere will be in the starting XI of Roberto Mancini’s side this evening.

If so, it’ll be his first Nazionale start since a 1-1 friendly away to Switzerland on June 5, 2010, when he was also on the scoresheet.

Mancini wants exciting Italy

Roberto Mancini has asserted that Italy’s objective is ‘to make fans enthusiastic about us again’ ahead of Tuesday’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Liechtenstein.

Italy kicked off their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Finland, and Mancini promised changes for their second and final match of the international break.

“I’ll be able to change some players, but we must have our own identity, regardless of our opponents,” he said at a Press conference.

Mancini: 'Kean-Balotelli possible'

Roberto Mancini said Moise Kean and Mario Balotelli “could certainly play together” or use the Juventus teenager as a centre-forward.

The 19-year-old was on target in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Finland, his first senior Italy start, playing as part of a trident attack with Ciro Immobile and Federico Bernardeschi.

Although Immobile did provide the assist for Kean, the Lazio striker has fired blanks in his last 10 Azzurri caps.
