Roma in pole for Cristante

Roma are in pole position to sign Atalanta’s Bryan Cristante, according to reports this morning.

The midfielder spent last season on loan from Benfica, with the Orobici buying him outright for €5m.

However, it’s unlikely he’ll be staying in Bergamo, with Atalanta looking to sell him on for around €30m.

Juventus are thought to be interested in signing him, but calciomercato.com believes that Roma are in pole position.

Roma use Defrel for Cristante

Roma could try to get the upper hand for Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante by offering Gregoire Defrel plus €15m.

Cristante is hot property on the transfer market, wanted by the likes of Juventus, Inter, Napoli, Lazio, Liverpool, Arsenal and Monaco.

According to Tuttosport, the Giallorossi believe they can take the lead in this race by including former Sassuolo forward Defrel as part of the deal.

With an added €15m on top, Atalanta could be swayed into a deal and Cristante would get Champions League football.

Defrel ‘undergoes knee surgery’

Roma striker Gregoire Defrel has reportedly undergone surgery to rectify a long-standing knee problem.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the decision was taken as Defrel’s knee would heal around the same time as his ankle, which pulled up only last week.

The Frenchman has been struggling with knee issues for the past year, even before his arrival from Sassuolo in July 2017.

Roma suffer Defrel blow?

Roma could be without Gregoire Defrel for the season’s run-in after the striker reportedly suffered an ankle injury.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio’s website, Defrel picked up the strain during training on Thursday, describing its impact as ‘violent’, although tests would have ruled out any ligament tear.

Nonetheless, it marks another setback for the Frenchman, who has scored just one goal in 20 appearances since his €20m arrival from Sassuolo last summer.

EDF: 'New start for Roma'

Eusebio Di Francesco wants the 5-2 victory over Benevento to be “a starting point” for Roma and knew Cengiz Under would come good.

It seems to be a turning point for the Giallorossi, as they’ve won two in a row, surged past Lazio into fourth place and scored five goals when they hadn’t managed more than one per game since December 1.
