Defrel and Perotti injured

Roma will be without Gregoire Defrel for approximately one month, while Diego Perotti has only a slight muscular problem.

Both were at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome this evening for tests after injuries sustained in the 2-1 Champions League win away to Qarabag.

Perotti didn’t play, as he suffered the problem in training the day before, and has been diagnosed with “an oedema in the biceps fermoris muscle of his right thigh.

“Defrel has a Grade I tear to the muscle/fascia of the biceps fermoris muscle in his left thigh.”

Roma injuries pile up

Roma have injury concerns after the win over Qarabag for Gregoire Defrel, Diego Perotti and… Coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

The Giallorossi left Azerbaijan with a 2-1 Champions League victory thanks to goals from Kostas Manolas and Edin Dzeko.

Defrel limped off with a muscular problem during the second half and is therefore in doubt for Sunday’s Serie A showdown with Milan.

The French forward was only playing because Perotti struggled with a thigh issue and cut to his shin.

Monchi: 'Pressure motivates Roma'

Monchi explains why Roma didn’t buy another centre-back, invested in Patrik Schick and kept their top stars, but welcomes the pressure.

The director of sport answered fan questions on the official Giallorossi website and naturally many enquiries were about the transfer window.

“We considered all our options and came to the conclusion that the five centre-backs we have in our squad - Leandro Castan, Kostas Manolas, Juan Jesus, Federico Fazio and Hector Moreno - provide enough cover for the three competitions we're in,” said Monchi.

Roma leave No 10 vacant

Roma have seemingly left their No 10 shirt vacant for this season after Francesco Totti’s retirement.

Totti hung up his boots at the end of the previous campaign, and while Roma have yet to make a decision on whether to retire his 10 jersey, it appears no-one will succeed the club icon just yet.

However, this may be subject to change as the transfer window does not shut until August 31.
