Mancini: 'Constant Italy improvement'

Roberto Mancini insists Italy face their “toughest game” in qualifying as they visit second-place Finland in their Euro 2020 qualifier.

It kicks off in Tampere on Sunday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

The Azzurri have a 100 per cent record, but Finland’s only defeat was against Italy in the opening round back in March.

“We must always improve. I don’t think our performance against Armenia was bad, but this is a completely different game and we hope for a victory,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

Bernardeschi: 'Not in best shape'

Federico Bernardeschi admits he is “not in the best shape right now” and falling down the Juventus pecking order could cause problems for Italy.

The versatile forward, who can also play in midfield, has only managed eight minutes of Serie A football so far this season and it showed in his performance when Italy beat Armenia 3-1 on Thursday.

“Roberto Mancini was cross, but he’s only right, as he wanted to express his anger when he saw the team struggling,” Bernardeschi told Rai Sport.

Kanerva: 'Finland not playing for draw'

Finland Coach Markku Kanerva confessed they’ll take a “defensive” approach to Italy in their Euro 2020 qualifier, but “are not playing for a draw.”

It kicks off tomorrow in Tampere at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

These are the top two teams in Group J and the only difference between them is Italy’s 2-0 victory last October.

“I’ve tried to give the players a little time off and not too much intensive training today,” explained Kanerva in his Press conference after a 1-0 win over Greece.

Italy take the Mkhi in Armenia

The Azzurri did just about enough to grind out a win over 10-man Armenia, but it was a reality check for Giancarlo Rinaldi.

It wasn’t pretty nor very much deserved, that’s for sure. If grinding out wins in uninspiring fashion is a symptom of coming down with a winning mentality, then this might be just what the Azzurri team doctor ordered. For the rest of us, enthused by some of the nice football seen in previous outings, a flattering triumph over Armenia felt about as good as chugging down your cough medicine when you are six years old.

Mancini: 'Red card penalised Italy'

Roberto Mancini felt Armenia going down to 10 men “penalised us, as they just focused on defending,” while Stefano Sensi will play for Italy in Finland.

Andrea Belotti bagged a brace around Lorenzo Pellegrini’s glancing header for a 3-1 victory, but it was 1-1 for a long time even after the hosts went down to 10 men.

Sensi: I'm becoming a winner

Inter and Italy midfielder Stefano Sensi believes he is becoming a winner under Antonio Conte and Roberto Mancini.

Sensi was called up to the Italy squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers against Armenia and Finland, having caught the eye for Inter in his first couple of months, and he was full of praise for his two Coaches.

“I have high expectations of myself, as always,” the 23-year-old said at a Press conference.

“Certainly, my attention levels will always be the same. I want to play, I’m available to the Coach.
