Official: Mkhitaryan extends Roma stay

Roma have reached a preliminary agreement to keep Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the Olimpico for the 2020-21 season, announced the club.

The Giallorossi have extended the Armenian’s loan deal for the rest of the season and CEO Guido Fienga was happy to confirm that Roma have also come to an agreement with Arsenal to keep the player for next term.

Mkhitaryan, who has been on loan from Arsenal for the 2019-20 season and has contributed six goals and three assists.

Mkhitaryan: 'I needed a change'

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed why he left Arsenal for Roma and how Inter icon Youri Djorkaeff ‘drove me to become a football player’.

Mkhitaryan moved on loan to Roma last summer and confessed he needed a ‘change’ in his career, having failed to truly establish himself at Arsenal.

“It was a bit of a shame because I missed the most important games of the season, but now I‘m happy to be back,” he told Serie A’s official YouTube channel.

Roma want cash plus Mkhi for Kluivert

Negotiations continue between Roma and Arsenal, but they disagree over Justin Kluivert’s transfer valuation compared to Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi are asking for Mkhitaryan to make his loan move permanent, but also for Arsenal to hand over an extra €10-15m.

In exchange for the Armenia international and the cash, Roma would then send wide striker Kluivert to the Gunners.

On the other hand, Arsenal maintain the two players are worth the same figure in today’s transfer market.

Kluivert to Arsenal for Mkhitaryan?

Mino Raiola is reportedly working on a swap deal that would keep Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Roma and send Justin Kluivert to Arsenal.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, talks have taken place between the two clubs this week over the possibility of an exchange, with Raiola mediating as the agent of both players.

With that in mind, the newspaper claims Roma could pay €12-14m to sign Mkhitaryan permanently, with Arsenal shelling out €35-40m for Kluivert.

Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi expects a ‘creative transfer market’ with many exchange deals and feels able to convince both Lorenzo Pellegrini and Nicolò Zaniolo to stay at the Olimpico.

Mkhi keen for long Roma stay

Arsenal loanee Henrikh Mkhitaryan has confirmed that ‘I’d like to be at Roma for another few years’ and revealed Mino Raiola can be ‘very hard’ to work with.

Roma do not have an option to buy Mkhitaryan at the end of his loan spell this summer, but the attacking midfielder is hopeful his stay at the Olimpico can be extended in some capacity.

“I don’t know how long I’m going to stay here,” he told the ‘Futbol with Grant Wahl’ podcast.

Roma push to extend Mkhitaryan stay

Roma are in negotiations with Arsenal to extend Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s loan and add an obligation to buy in June 2021.

The 31-year-old is already on loan at a cost of €3m this season, without an option to make the move permanent.

According to Il Tempo newspaper, the Giallorossi have put forward the proposal of adding another season on loan, with the promise to pay the transfer fee in 2021.

Mkhitaryan message 'fake news'

Agent Mino Raiola quashed 'fake news' reports regarding a message from Arsenal loanee Henrikh Mkhitaryan, allegedly asking for a move to Roma.

Il Corriere dello Sport claimed the Giallorossi playmaker hopes to remain in Italy and had sent a message to his owners in London asking of them to find an agreement with Roma.

The report also claimed the Gunners have lowered their asking price to around €10m for the Armenia international, but Raiola hits out at the story and brands it as ‘unacceptable fake news’.

Fonseca: 'Two plus Mkhitaryan'

Paulo Fonseca has confirmed that he would like Roma to sign two of his former Shakhtar Donetsk stars and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a permanent basis.

Several members of Shakhtar’s squad have been linked with following Fonseca to Roma in recent months, and the coach made no secret of his desire to bring in at least one of them.

“I know the skills of the Shakhtar players very well. They could play for the best European teams,” he told Ukrainian show Great Football.
