Serie A Team of Week 25

As the top two continue to break away, but European and relegation battles hot up, Marcello Cossali-Francis picks his best XI from Week 25.

Emiliano Viviano (Sampdoria)

Had it not been for Viviano, Milan would have had more than just the one goal in this match. Made a brilliant penalty save from Ricardo Rodriguez down to his left, which ultimately kept the away side in the game. Could have done better perhaps for Milan’s goal, but more than made up for it with the rest of his performance.

Rosetti: 'VAR on stadium screens'

The next step for VAR is showing the footage on big screens in the stadiums, confirmed the project’s chief Roberto Rosetti.

Although the technology has been used in Serie A this season, it is still being experimented in other tournaments such as the FA Cup.

“We are just at the start and have to improve,” Rosetti told Radio Anch’Io Sport.

“The project is continuing in a very positive way. There were two offside incidents yesterday and they were both read in an accurate fashion.

TV rights transform Serie A

Serie A is set to be transformed by the new TV rights deal and Juventus will be the biggest losers, writes Emmet Gates.

It looks as if 2018-19 really will be a game-changer in Serie A. Not only have they got four automatic places in the Champions League, they’ll also begin benefiting from the new TV rights deal that substantially shifts the power structure between big and mid-table clubs.

Sarri: 'Napoli can't walk into the net'

Maurizio Sarri admits Napoli “only have Serie A in their heads and have no motivation for anything else,” but against SPAL “tried to walk the ball into the net.”

The Partenopei were criticised on Thursday for snubbing the Europa League in a 3-1 home defeat to RB Leipzig, focusing all their attention on the Scudetto.

Beating SPAL 1-0 with an Allan goal was their all-time club record ninth straight Serie A win, but still not a commanding performance.

Semplici: 'SPAL kept Napoli quiet'

Leonardo Semplici feels SPAL “kept the game in the balance to the final whistle” in a 1-0 defeat to Serie A leaders Napoli.

A thrashing was expected at the Stadio San Paolo when Allan broke the deadlock after six minutes, but that proved to be the only goal of the game.

“We faced a team of great quality who have always done well in Serie A this season, so there were many difficulties around it,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
