Insigne: 'Great Napoli response'

Lorenzo Insigne saw their 1-0 victory over SPAL, a new club record ninth in a row, as “a great response” to their Europa League flop.

The Partenopei had lost here 3-1 to RB Leipzig on Thursday and were criticised in some quarters for so obviously favouring Serie A ahead of European competition.

“We gave a great response, because on Thursday we really didn’t do well,” Insigne told Sky Sport Italia.

Wk25: Benevento and Bologna thrillers

Benevento saw off Crotone 3-2 with a last-gasp goal from Cheick Diabate and Bologna got the better of 10-man Sassuolo in the Emilia-Romagna Derby.

It could prove to be a decisive afternoon in the race to avoid relegation.

It was a massive head-to-head at the Stadio Vigorito and lived up to the billing with a spectacular five-goal game, concluded by substitute Diabate scoring on his Serie A debut.

Allan finished off a wonderful Napoli team move, but that proved enough to squeeze past SPAL, as Marek Hamsik’s goal was offside.

SPAL have faith in Semplici

SPAL President Walter Mattioli has denied rumours they’ll sack Coach Leonardo Semplici. “He has the faith of the club.”

The tactician was believed to be at risk even after taking SPAL to their first promotion into Serie A since the 1960s.

“Seeing as I keep reading a lot of rubbish, I want to make something clear,” said Mattioli at a charity event.

Orsato for Turin derby

Daniele Orsato has been named as the referee for Sunday’s Derby della Mole between Torino and Juventus.

The Turin derby is the early kick-off on Sunday for Week 25, with the Bianconeri looking to return to the top of Serie A before Napoli play Spal in the afternoon.

Today the AIA has announced the referees for this weekend, and Orsato has been assigned to the derby.

Daniele Doveri has been entrusted with Sampdoria’s visit to Milan, while Claudio Gavillucci will be the man in the middle when Napoli face Spal.

Gattuso at Milan until 2020?

Milan are considering a contract extension to keep Gennaro Gattuso as their Coach until June 2020.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Rossoneri are so pleased with the progress under their interim tactician that they’re ready to offer a new deal.

Gattuso was the Coach of their Primavera youth team when he was promoted to the main job after Vincenzo Montella’s dismissal in November.

After a stuttering start, Milan have found their form with five wins and three draws between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
