Lazio building towards success

The Biancocelesti consistently seem to be on the verge of greatness, but Sam Wilson feels it's an exciting time to be a Lazio fan.

Arguably, very few sides have been closer to deserving a place in the Champions League over the past few seasons than Lazio. In the 2017-18 season, the club missed out on fourth spot after a devastating loss to Inter on the final day of the season, whilst the last campaign ended in a bittersweet manner, finishing eighth in Serie A whilst lifting the Coppa Italia trophy.

Final round fireworks in Serie A

The Serie A 2019-20 season will come to a close with some spectacular final fixtures, including Juventus-Roma, Atalanta-Inter and Napoli-Lazio.

The full fixture list was drawn up this evening in Milan at the Lega Serie A headquarters.

It means there will be a series of massive showdowns in the final round on May 24, 2020, and most of these will be played simultaneously.

Serie A 2019-20 Week 1

The opening weekend of the 2019-20 Serie A season will include Fiorentina-Napoli, Parma-Juventus, Roma-Genoa and Sampdoria-Lazio.

The fixture list for the tournament was drawn up this evening and you can follow that as it happens on the LIVEBLOG.

It all starts on the weekend of Saturday August 24 and will conclude on May 24, 2020.

The evening kick-offs will now be at 19.45 UK time rather than 19.30.

Leeds United target Petagna

Leeds United made a €15m offer for striker Andrea Petagna, according to TMW, but SPAL want at least €25m.

Tuttomercatoweb maintain Championship side Leeds have set their sights on the former Atalanta centre-forward.

The 24-year-old had his most prolific ever Serie A season in 2018-19, scoring 16 goals in 36 games.

However, the clubs are a long way off an agreement, seeing as the Leeds bid is €15m and SPAL rate Petagna at €25m.

Coric breaks Roma silence

Roma midfielder Ante Coric has broken his silence to confirm ‘I’m not injured’ after being excluded from first-team training.

Coric has been training alone at Trigoria since Roma returned for preseason, prompting the 22-year-old to remark he was being frozen out by new boss Paulo Fonseca.

“I’m not injured,” he wrote on Instagram.

The Gilallorossi spent €6m to bring in the Croat from Dinamo Zagreb last summer, but he went on to make just three substitute appearances.

SPAL, Sassuolo and Brescia all won their pre-season friendlies today against Serie C opposition.

New signing Federico Di Francesco hasn’t even completed the paperwork yet from Sassuolo, but was already making his debut in a SPAL jersey during their 4-1 win over FeralpiSalò.

Sergio Floccari opened the scoring from a corner, then Mattia Valoti’s daisy-cutter doubled their lead, but Floccari saw a penalty saved.

Official: SPAL release Schiattarella

SPAL have terminated Pasquale Schiattarella’s contract by mutual consent so he can join Benevento in Serie B.

The 32-year-old midfielder had been a key figure in their promotion to the top flight, joining from Latina in 2016.

He featured in 28 Serie A games last season, providing four assists for his teammates.

SPAL announced this evening that his contract had been terminated by mutual consent.

This leaves him as a free agent and Schiattarella already has a deal lined up with Pippo Inzaghi’s Benevento.
