Zanetti: ‘Totti a great champion’

Javier Zanetti calls Francesco Totti “a great champion” after the Roma captain’s 300th goal this weekend.

The veteran recorded his 300th goal for the Giallorossi in the 2-2 draw with Sassuolo on Sunday, and the Inter vice-President paid tribute in an interview with RTL.

“Totti is a great champion, on and off the field,” Zanetti said.

“He’s been the symbol of Roma for many years, and he’ll remain in their history forever. I still remember the night we both scored at San Siro [February 2008].

Lippi: ’Ventura best Italian Coach’

Marcello Lippi sees Torino’s Giampiero Ventura as the best Coach in Italy, but detects ‘melancholy’ in Francesco Totti.

The Granata moved into second-place in Serie A with a win over Udinese this weekend, and the former Juventus boss sees a team built to go the distance.

“Torino have the best Italian Coach in Ventura,” Lippi told Radio2.

“Torino, like Sassuolo and Chievo, have had the same Coach for a few years, their play is drilled-in and they’ll get good results.

Serie A Week 4: Did You Know?

Francesco Totti hits 300, Napoli make manita history and Inter consider their last perfect start as Susy Campanale rounds up curious stats.

Napoli had not celebrated a 5-0 Serie A victory since visiting Udinese in September 2007. Never in the club’s history had they put together back-to-back wins by five goals in all competition, but disposed of Club Brugge and Lazio by the same scoreline.

Gonzalo Higuain has found the net 10 times in just five League meetings with Lazio, making them his favourite victims.

Francesco Totti has now scored 300 competitive goals in a Roma jersey, 244 of them in Serie A, 16 in the Coppa Italia, 1 in the Italian Super Cup and 39 in Europe.

Garcia: 'Iturbe has character'

Roma’s Rudi Garcia backs striker Juan Iturbe after a substitution drama, but reveals he was 'expecting much more from my starters'.

Today’s game against Sassuolo represented a big chance for the Argentine to regain a starter’s shirt, but the 2-2 draw and an opaque performance led to a substitution after five minutes in the second half.

Iturbe stepped off the field visibly frustrated and he kicked an advertising board before tromping into the changing rooms.

Luis Enrique: ‘Totti is a champion’

Barcelona Coach Luis Enrique calls Francesco Totti ‘a champion’ ahead of the Roma match tonight.

The tactician was previously on the Stadio Olimpico bench for 2011-12 season, but resigned at the end of the campaign.

With club captain Totti benched frequently by Coach Rudi Garcia this term, Enrique took the opportunity to deny that the forward is hard to manage.

“To see him on the bench is normal with such long competitions,” the Spaniard told Mediaset.

Lippi: ‘Don’t write-off Juventus’

Marcello Lippi warns it would be ‘a glaring error’ to write-off Juventus after only two games.

The Bianconeri have lost their first two games for the first time since the foundation of Serie A, but their legendary former Coach warns against talk of a crisis.

“Anyone who thinks Juve have lost their hunger or are in crisis is making a glaring error,” Lippi cautioned in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“They’ll fight to the end to win their fifth consecutive Scudetto.
