Berlusconi: ‘Goodbye Milan’

Silvio Berlusconi bids an emotional farewell to Milan as the club needs “investment and resources a single family can no longer support”.

It was officially confirmed today that the now former Rossoneri President has sold the club to a Chinese group, and he posted a goodbye message on his official Facebook page.

“Today, after more than 30 years, I leave the position as President of AC Milan,” Berlusconi began.

Five priorities for the new Milan owners

It was officially confirmed today that Milan have finally been sold to Yonghong Li and his Rossoneri Sport Investment consortium.

Silvio Berlusconi has sold the club after 31 years at the helm, a tenure which brought 29 major trophies, including five European Cups.

However, the last major triumph was the 2011 Scudetto win, so the Chinese owners have plenty of work to do.

Li: ‘We'll bring Milan back’

New Milan owner Yonghong Li thanks Silvio Berlusconi after completing the takeover and promises “we’ll lead this legendary team back to the top”.

Rossoneri Sport Investment Lux finally completed their purchase of the club from Berlusconi’s holding company Fininvest today, paying a total of €830m.

“I thank Berlusconi and Fininvest for their trust and Rossoneri fans all over the world for their patience,” the new owner told sports.163.com.

Official: Berlusconi sells Milan

The takeover of Milan has officially been completed, with Silvio Berlusconi selling the club after 31 years.

A consortium led by Chinese businessman Yonghong Li has been attempting to buy the Rossoneri for some time, but the deal was hit by a series of delays.

However, after Sino-Europe Sports became Rossoneri Sport Luxembourg and received investment from an American hedge fund, a meeting was held this morning to ratify the sale.

Milan sale today

The takeover of Milan by a Chinese group is expected to finally be completed today.

Silvio Berlusconi has been trying to sell the club for some time, but the takeover by Yonghong Li’s consortium has been repeatedly delayed.

However, after investment from a US hedge fund it appears the takeover will now happen, and that today will be the historic day.

Corriere della Sera reports that the remaining €370m will be paid today, with the handover to take place at a law firm in central Milan.

Milan board disbanded

The Milan Board of Directors have resigned after the final meeting of the Silvio Berlusconi era, as Yonghong Li’s takeover is almost complete.

This morning Yonghong Li flew in from Hong Kong, while Han Li had already been in Milan yesterday for meetings with new directors Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli.

This afternoon the Milan Board of Directors had the last meeting of the 31-year Berlusconi era, in which the counsellors handed in their resignation.

Chinese arrive for Milan completion

Yonghong Li has been photographed arriving at Milan Malpensa airport in order to complete the takeover of Milan tomorrow.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the broker must now pay €190m to complete the deal, a sum in addition to the €250m already deposited, with a final €180m now guaranteed by the American Elliott.

The money is said to be in Luxembourg and will be deposited into the Fininvest accounts tomorrow morning, in order that the takeover be finally completed.

Lippi: ‘No-one knows Milan owners’

Marcello Lippi discusses Milan’s expected new owners - “no-one in China knows who these people are”.

The World Cup-winner is currently in charge of the Chinese national team, and with Yonghong Li expected to compete his takeover of the Rossoneri this week, the Coach was asked about the sale.

“We should once and for all end this saga about the sale of the club,” Lippi told SportItalia.

“No-one in China knows who these people are, while obviously the Suning Group which bought Inter is very well known.”

Han Li meets Fininvest

It’s reported Han Li of Rossoneri Sport Luxembourg met Fininvest today, ahead of their takeover of Milan on Thursday.

A consortium led by Yonghong Li appears to finally be on the verge of buying the club from Silvio Berlusconi, after a series of delays.

The closing is scheduled for Thursday, and Sky reports that executive director of Rossoneri Sport, Han Li, met with Fininvest executives today.

The rest of the Chinese delegation are expected to arrive on Wednesday, indicating that the takeover is finally nearing completion.
