Leonardo: 'Clear Milan penalty'

Milan director Leonardo insists they deserved a last-gasp penalty against Sampdoria, but there is “no need to put anyone on trial.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s howler after 33 seconds gifted Gregoire Defrel the only goal of the game and referee Daniele Orsato viewed the stoppage-time incident on VAR, deciding Nicola Murru got his studs to the ball before Krzysztof Piatek.

“This was not our best performance, let’s put it that way,” the director told DAZN.

Serie B 'ready for VAR'

Serie B is “ready to introduce VAR” from this season’s promotion play-offs and relegation play-outs, claims President Mauro Balata.

The technology has already been used in Serie A since last season and there are advanced plans to get it working in Serie B from as early as the play-offs in May and June.

“Serie B is ready to introduce VAR, the studies have confirmed it, with stadiums, technology and standards of television cameras all suited to it,” said Lega B President Balata.

Romairone: 'Both Milan goals invalid'

Chievo director Giancarlo Romairone claims both Milan goals should’ve been disallowed. “We’d like to lose because we’re bad, not for collateral damage.”

The 2-1 home defeat was sealed by a Lucas Biglia free kick and Krzysztof Piatek tap-in to finalise a chaotic move.

“It’s not possible that every week there’s a controversial incident with us,” Romairone told Sky Sport Italia.

UEFA defends Roma VAR decisions

UEFA believes VAR made the right calls during Roma’s 3-1 defeat to Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Porto were awarded an extra-time penalty after Alessandro Florenzi had tugged his opponent’s shirt in the box, before Roma were denied a spot-kick of their own, the referee controversially choosing not to consult the VAR.

De Rossi: 'Human error, not VAR'

Daniele De Rossi maintains Roma deserved a penalty against Porto in the Champions League. “It’s nothing to do with VAR, that is a human error.”

VAR was used to give Porto a spot-kick in extra time and win 3-1 on the night, 4-3 on aggregate, but official Cuneyt Cakir did not watch the footage back when Patrik Schick seemed to be tripped a few minutes later.

Giampaolo: 'I prefer to have VAR'

Marco Giampaolo admired the midfield work from Sampdoria to beat SPAL, but also stood up for VAR after protests.

Fabio Quagliarella scored the two goals at the Stadio Paolo Mazza in this 2-1 victory.

“After our early goals, it got a bit chaotic, as SPAL had to fight back and so shook off the shackles to play in a more open and attacking fashion,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
