FIFPro: 'Napoli intimidated players'

FIFPro have announced they are helping Napoli players avoid “further abuse and intimidation by the Serie A club” after their heavy fines, which were imposed "without valid grounds."

The players were docked part of their October salary, up to 50 per cent in some cases, for refusing to go back into a training retreat.

ADL holds summit with Napoli stars

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis met with the squad yesterday and reportedly explained to Allan, Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens why they were fined more.

The Partenopei have been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks, with the players refusing to go back to the training retreat following a 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg in the Champions League.

The players decided to go home, with the backing of Carlo Ancelotti.

Serie A clubs sign racism letter

All 20 Serie A clubs have signed a letter promising to tackle racism following a season of escalating incidents that have brought worldwide condemnation.

Italian football has been notoriously slow to tackle the issue of racism, with Romelu Lukaku, Mario Balotelli and Dalbert all subjected to racist abuse this season.

This follows on from the previous campaign, when Blaise Matuidi, Moise Kean and Kalidou Koulibaly were all targeted for their skin colour.

Allegri or Ancelotti for Arsenal?

Former Juventus boss Max Allegri and Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti have emerged as contenders to succeed Unai Emery at Arsenal.

Last night’s 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League proved to be the Spaniard’s last game in charge of the Gunners, and now the club is looking for a replacement.

The Telegraph reports Arsenal are looking at Ancelotti, who is going through a difficult period at the San Paolo.

However, the Partenopei would be entitled to significant compensation as the 60-year-old is contracted to Napoli until 2021.

Ancelotti laughs off Arsenal talk

Carlo Ancelotti has laughed off talk that he could leave Napoli for Arsenal. “These are rumours, I have white hair and experience.”

Ancelotti was linked with replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur, and his name has since come up for the Arsenal job as Unai Emery continues to be the subject of intense press scrutiny.

However, the former Milan boss said told told BT Sport: “I stay with Napoli, of course.

“These are rumours! I have white hair and experience. In this moment they are all rumours.”

Llorente: 'Turned down Boca'

Napoli forward Fernando Llorente revealed he rejected a move to Boca Juniors to remain in the Champions League.

The former Tottenham striker moved to Napoli last summer after being on the losing side in the Champions League Final against Liverpool last season.

Now he has revealed how he turned down the opportunity to join Argentinian giant Boca Juniors to continue his career in the prestigious tournament.

“They tried to sign me last summer,” he told ESPN. “But I wanted to continue to play in Europe and in the Champions League.”

Five Napoli fans arrested in Liverpool

Five Napoli supporters were arrested before the match against Liverpool on Merseyside, after a clash with the local police.

A statement from the police revealed that five fans were placed under arrest before and during the match between the top teams in Group E.

“Officers policing the LFC v Napoli CL game arrested five Napoli fans,” the statement read. “Three men were arrested for violent disorder and another was for affray following disorder on Walton Breck Road before the game.

Koulibaly: 'Satisfied with draw'

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was happy to take a draw against Liverpool, but admitted they “could have done more to win the game.”

The Partenopei are the only team to defeat Liverpool this season and after the 1-1 draw at Anfield on Tuesday, they are unbeaten in two matches against the reigning European champions.

“We knew it would be a very difficult match,” he told UEFA.com after the match. “They haven’t lost in a very long time."
