Napoli prepare Palacios swoop

Napoli are said to be tracking Tottenham talent Wilson Palacios after he impressed in the Champions League.

The Vesuviani plan major reinforcements ahead of their qualification for Europe's top club competition.

One of their targets is reportedly 26-year-old Spurs midfielder Palacios, who has struggled to maintain a first-team place at White Hart Lane.

The Honduras international had a taste of the Champions League and would relish another attempt next season.

Napoli to bid for Chivu

Napoli will attempt to bolster their defence with a bid for Inter stopper Cristian Chivu, according to reports in Italy.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has already set about strengthening his team's backline.

He brought in Victor Ruiz from Espanyol in January and has already agreed a deal for Estudiantes centre-back Federico Fernandez in June.

Napoli feel Chivu would be ideal for their three-man defence given his ability to play in the middle and on the left-hand side.

De Laurentiis: 'Everything is possible'

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is confident “everything is possible and nothing is lost” despite two consecutive defeats.

The Vesuviani were in second place and within three points of leaders Milan, but back-to-back losses against Udinese and Palermo have knocked them down to third.

“We will cancel out Palermo by looking to the future,” said the patron on Radio Marte.

“The lads have certainly matured and I found a relaxed atmosphere in the locker room.

The Partenopei fell to a second straight defeat in Serie A and have relinquished their title challenge.

"In the second half we tried, but didn't manage to even equalise. I can't be happy with my performance.

According to some sources in the peninsula, Napoli too are very keen on the 31-year-old Italian international.

Line-ups: Cavani faces Palermo past

Napoli bid to stay in the Scudetto race with Giuseppe Mascara and Edinson Cavani taking on Javier Pastore's Palermo.

The Partenopei shot themselves in the foot last week with a 2-1 home defeat to Udinese that left them six points adrift of leaders Milan.

Ezequiel Lavezzi and captain Paolo Cannavaro are suspended for this match, so ex-Catania star Mascara and former Lazio defender Emilson Sanchez Cribari step in.

Walter Gargano gets a rare midfield start in place of Hasan Yebda.
