Inter Deulofeu’s best hope - report

Sky Sport claim a move to Inter is now Gerard Deulofeu’s best hope of leaving Barcelona in this January’s transfer window.

The 23-year-old has once again been excluded from Ernesto Valverde’s squad to face Real Sociedad in La Liga today – the eighth consecutive occasion he has been left out.

With aspirations of making Spain’s World Cup squad this summer, Deulofeu is desperate to leave the Camp Nou in order to get regular game time and has set his sights on a move to Italy.

Capello: ‘Juve have mental edge’

Fabio Capello believes Juventus’ ‘winning habit and mentality’ make them favourites to win the Scudetto again.

The Old Lady are a point and a place behind Serie A leaders Napoli as they go in search of a seventh straight League title.

But despite acknowledging the ‘danger’ posed by Maurizio Sarri’s Partenopei, Capello is tipping his former club to win through.

“Napoli, with no more Champions League, are dangerous,” the former Real Madrid and England boss told Tuttosport.

‘Napoli deserve Scudetto, but…’

Arrigo Sacchi believes Maurizio Sarri deserves to lead Napoli to the Scudetto but doubts they can stay ahead of Juventus.

With just over half of the season gone the Partenopei are top of Serie A, one point and one place above Max Allegri’s team.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Milan Coach heaped praise on Sarri for the job he has done at the San Paolo despite a lack of ‘top players’ to work with.

“Sarri has taken Napoli into the future,” the legendary ex-Rossoneri boss said.

Koulibaly: 'Ghoulam Napoli captain'

Kalidou Koulibaly believes Napoli teammate Faouzi Ghoulam “can be our captain one day, as he’s the best left-back in the world.”

The defender spoke to Algerian television station El Heddaf TV.

“I am very close to Faouzi and we share a room at training camp, so I feel a little lonely now that he’s injured,” confessed Koulibaly.

Barak 'ready for next step'

Udinese starlet Antonin Barak “is ready for the next step,” said his agent, but has “no preference” between Inter, Napoli or Milan.

The 23-year-old creative midfielder has been a sensation since he was snapped up from Slavia Prague last summer for only €3m.

He has scored seven goals with two assists in 17 Serie A appearances.

“It was an enormous surprise for us that he had such a strong impact in Serie A, but Tony always gives his best and works hard in training,” agent David Nehoda told FCInterNews.it.

Mascherano was 'tempted by Napoli'

Javier Mascherano reveals he came very close to joining Napoli in 2014 with Rafa Benitez, but Barcelona blocked the move.

The midfielder is now on the verge of making his transfer to Hebei China Fortune.

“I did have the option of leaving Barcelona in 2014 and at that moment Benitez’s Napoli were an option,” Mascherano told Spanish media.

“I told the director of sport, Andoni Zubizarreta, that my era in the Blaugrana jersey had concluded, but he said no because the club wanted to count on me still.

Chievo or Atalanta for Giaccherini

Emanuele Giaccherini is eager to leave Napoli this month, with Chievo more likely candidates ahead of Atalanta.

The former Italy international has barely featured since making the transfer to Naples in the wake of Euro 2016.

His agent confirmed recently that they were looking for a January transfer to get regular playing time.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the most intriguing proposals on the table are from Chievo and Atalanta.

CalcioNapoli24.it suggest Chievo have the upper hand and hope to finalise the move for €2m.

Napoli to offer Mertens new deal?

It is reported that Napoli are preparing to offer star forward Dries Mertens a new contract.

The 30-year-old currently has a deal at the San Paolo that expires in the summer of 2020.

While this is still over two years away, La Repubblica claims that the Partenopei are concerned by the fact Mertens’ deal still contains a €28m release clause.

According to the Italian daily, Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to eliminate the clause as it is not a fair reflection of the player’s form over the last few seasons.

Maksimovic set for loan move

Napoli could loan defender Nikola Maksimovic to the Bundesliga, after he rejected Bologna, Sassuolo and Villarreal.

According to Sportitalia, the former Torino centre-back is heading out of the Stadio San Paolo.

It’s no surprise, as although the Partenopei paid €20m plus bonuses for him in 2016, the Serbian has barely set foot on the pitch.

This season, he was given four appearances in all competition for a total 275 minutes of football.

It’s reported Napoli want to send him abroad to regain his confidence.

Ghoulam and Milik prepare comeback

Faouzi Ghoulam could be back playing for Napoli within a month, but Arkadiusz Milik has to wait a little longer.

The pair both suffered serious knee ligament injuries, as striker Milik has been sidelined since September.

Ghoulam tore his anterior cruciate ligament in October, but reportedly impressed medics during today’s check-up.

Sky Sport Italia claim that Ghoulam could be on the field next month, which would be ahead of schedule.
