‘Ancelotti has Napoli keys’

Aurelio De Laurentiis trusts Coach Carlo Ancelotti so much that “I’ve given him the keys to Napoli”.

The tactician replaced Maurizio Sarri on the bench this summer, and it appears he’ll have a far more involved role than his predecessor.

“I really believe in him, and that’s why I wanted him so strongly,” De Laurentiis explained to Corriere dello Sport,

“He’ll never have a solicitation from me, I will wait calmly and see what happens, his personality and abilities offer more than a guarantee.

ADL: ‘Napoli could play in Bari’

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis “asked UEFA for authorisation” to move the club’s Champions League matches to Bari.

The Partenopei are in open dispute with the council over the Stadio San Paolo, with the city claiming there is unpaid rent and the owner insisting they should sell him the ground.

The film magnate also owns Bari, and is considering moving big matches to the Stadio San Nicola, rather than stay at the San Paolo.

Italy's midfield is missing

After defeat in Portugal, Adam Digby looks at how an incoherent midfield remains Italy’s biggest problem and one that Roberto Mancini must address.

There is perhaps some irony seeing Claudio Marchisio showing off his new Zenit St Petersburg shirt just days before the latest outing for the Italian national team.

When the former Juventus man pulls on the sky blue kit of the Russian Premier League side, he will no longer wear the No.8 shirt that had long been on the back of his Bianconero one. Instead it will be a 10, and on Monday evening in Lisbon, the Azzurri lacked both a player fit to wear that most prestigious of numbers and any representative from the midfielder’s former club.

Chiriches has ACL surgery

Napoli and Romania defender Vlad Chiriches has undergone surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament and will be out for around six months.

The full-back sustained the injury to his left knee during Romania’s match against Montenegro.

Tests at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome confirmed the extent of the problem, as the ligament had been torn completely.

A note from Napoli announced the surgery went well and Chiriches will remain in the clinic to rest for a couple of days before beginning the rehabilitation process.

‘Berlusconi will revolutionise Monza’

Former Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi will revolutionise Serie C side Monza if his takeover goes through, according to long-time rival Massimo Moratti.

Berlusconi is on the verge of purchasing Monza, a 106-year-old club who have never played in Serie A, and Moratti revealed he was close to buying Bari before Napoli’s Aurelio De Laurentiis stepped in.

“There’s only one explanation for it, and it’s called passion,” the ex-Inter President told Il Giornale.

Albiol not buying Ronaldo drought

Raul Albiol is not buying Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus drought. “He didn’t score at the start of last season yet finished up with mindboggling numbers.”

Ronaldo failed to score in his first three Serie A appearances for Juve, leading some to suggest the No 7 was struggling with Italian defences, but Albiol – while reiterating his former Real Madrid teammate would probably not score 40 goals – warned it was only a phase.

Napoli turn down Burdisso?

Napoli have reportedly passed up the chance to sign veteran Nicolas Burdisso as cover for the injured Vlad Chiriches.

Chiriches’ ruptured ACL fuelled speculation that Napoli could look to the free-agent market for a new defender.

Sky Sport Italia claims the Partenopei were offered Burdisso, who is without a club after leaving Torino over the summer, but preferred to opt for ‘internal solutions’.

Ligament tear for Chiriches

Napoli have confirmed that defender Vlad Chiriches has ruptured the ACL in his left knee.

The announcement comes after Sky Sport Italia reported Chiriches had visited the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome on Monday morning for tests with Professor Mariani.

It was there that the ligament specialist learned of ‘the serious extent’ of the Romanian’s knee injury.

Consequently, the former Tottenham Hotspur stopper will go under the knife this afternoon.
