Torreira: 'I know how Napoli will play'

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira warned “I’ve played in Italy, so I know it’ll be a very different game at the San Paolo” against Napoli.

The Gunners won the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final 2-0 with Aaron Ramsey and a Torreira shot that was deflected in off Kalidou Koulibaly.

Torreira 'was close to Napoli'

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira was close to joining Napoli, confirmed his father, but “something strange happened. He might return to Italy in future.”

The Uruguay international made his name at Sampdoria and earned a move to Arsenal over the summer, but had been in advanced talks with their next Europa League opponents Napoli.

Torreira 'so proud' of Arsenal move

Former Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira is ‘so proud’ of his move to Arsenal but admits he expected to stay in Serie A.

Torreira was heavily linked with Napoli before his €30m switch to Arsenal over the summer, although the Uruguayan has become an instant fans’ favourite at Emirates Stadium.

“At the end of my last season at Sampdoria there were lots of teams being talked about,” he told the Gunners’ official Youtube channel.

Torreira agent: ‘With Carletto at Napoli…’

Lucas Torreira’s agent confirms his client could have joined Napoli if Carlo Ancelotti had been there at the start but “talks with Arsenal were too advanced”.

The Partenopei were in talks with Sampdoria for the midfielder throughout the second half of last season, but the deal eventually collapsed.

The Uruguayan then moved to the Premier League, but if the current Napoli Coach had been in situ then things could have been different.

Torreira: ‘See you later’ Samp

Arsenal new boy Lucas Torreira says his departure from Sampdoria is only a ‘see you later’ after wearing ‘the most beautiful jersey in the world’.

Torreira only spent two of his three years at Samp in their first team, but the Uruguay midfielder made it clear just how much the Blucerchiati meant to him, having since joined Arsenal in a €30m deal.

“Goodbye is too strong a word, so I’ll just say ‘see you later’,” he wrote on Instagram.

Official: Arsenal sign Torreira

Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, for what is thought to be a €30m fee.

There has been the basis of a deal in place for some time, but the transfer couldn’t be completed while Uruguay were still in the World Cup.

This week though the midfielder flew out to London to complete the transfer, and he has now been officially announced as an Arsenal player.

The Gunners posted a video on their Twitter account to announce the signing, while Sampdoria released an official statement.

Ferrero: Samp want Defrel, Eder…

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero confirms his club want Roma striker Gregoire Defrel, while Inter ‘continue to offer us Eder for Dennis Praet’.

Ferrero gave an update on Samp’s business in the transfer market to Il Secolo XIX, from who will replace Emiliano Viviano and Lucas Torreira to reinforcements in attack.

“We still have to sign a goalkeeper, and from what I’ve been told, the deal for Jandrei can go through, but things often change in the market,” he told the newspaper.

Torreira: 'Can't waste opportunity'

Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira confirmed he is flying to London for a medical with Arsenal. “I can’t waste this opportunity.”

The €30m transfer had already been agreed several weeks ago, but the move was delayed as he was participating in the World Cup.

They went out in the quarter-finals to France and the squad is flying back to Uruguay, except for Torreira.

Torreira to Arsenal not imminent?

Lucas Torreira’s move from Sampdoria to Arsenal is not imminent despite Uruguay’s elimination from the World Cup, according to reports.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the midfielder throughout the summer, with the transfer delayed due to the South American nation’s involvement at the tournament in Russia.

With Uruguay’s elimination confirmed after they were beaten 2-0 in Friday’s quarter-final against France, it was thought the deal would quickly be made official.
