Insigne: 'Napoli not snubbing Europe'

Lorenzo Insigne insists “it’s not true that Napoli snub the Europa League and we want to make up for” their first leg loss to RB Leipzig.

The first leg ended 3-1 at the Stadio San Paolo and there are only small hopes of turning around such a massive loss.

“We really want to make up for that performance, as we know that we must score three goals, but if we start strong with the right mentality, then we can cause them problems,” said Insigne in his Press conference.

Sarri: 'Napoli played like buffoons'

Maurizio Sarri admits Napoli played “like buffoons” against RB Leipzig and want to make up for it in the Europa League, but “our fans are only interested in the Scudetto.”

The first leg was a 3-1 home defeat and the decider is in Germany at 18.00 GMT.

“We played like buffoons in the first leg and 70 per cent of that is my fault, 10 per cent the club, 10 per cent the players and 10 per cent the staff,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Hasenhuttl 'can't wait' for Napoli

RB Leipzig will be without Naby Keita and Willi Orban, confirmed Coach Ralph Hasenhuttl, who insists Napoli “didn’t underestimate” them.

The first leg ended 3-1 to the Germans at the Stadio San Paolo and the return is on Thursday at 18.00 GMT.

“Keita and Orban didn’t take part in training today, but Kevin Kampl and Bruma return,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Mertens makes Napoli cut

Dries Mertens has made Napoli’s squad for their Europa League last-32 second leg against RB Leipzig on Thursday.

There were fears that Mertens would miss the match in Germany, but Napoli’s official website confirmed the attacker only sprained his ankle in training and was able to travel.

The Partenopei trail Leipzig 3-1 from the first leg and need to score at least three goals without conceding to reach the quarter-finals.

RB Leipzig build Sarri smoking room

RB Leipzig have reportedly erected a special wall to create a smoking section in their locker room for Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri.

The first leg of their Europa League tie ended 3-1 for the Germans at the Stadio San Paolo and they meet again at the Red Bull Arena on Thursday evening.

According to pictures published in Bild, the host club have added a wall – 3m wide, 3.5m high – in the locker room to create a smoking section.

At the request of Napoli, all the smoke detectors in the locker rooms have also been switched off.

EL: Referees for Italian teams

The referees for the four Europa League games involving Atalanta, Milan, Napoli and Lazio have been announced.

The second legs of the Round of 32 take place on Thursday evening.

Atalanta need to overturn their 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund and Spanish official Jesus Gil Manzano grips the whistle.

Lazio must also fight back from a 1-0 loss to FC Steaua Bucharest and have Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic in charge at the Stadio Olimpico.

Sarri: 'Napoli can't walk into the net'

Maurizio Sarri admits Napoli “only have Serie A in their heads and have no motivation for anything else,” but against SPAL “tried to walk the ball into the net.”

The Partenopei were criticised on Thursday for snubbing the Europa League in a 3-1 home defeat to RB Leipzig, focusing all their attention on the Scudetto.

Beating SPAL 1-0 with an Allan goal was their all-time club record ninth straight Serie A win, but still not a commanding performance.

Insigne: 'Great Napoli response'

Lorenzo Insigne saw their 1-0 victory over SPAL, a new club record ninth in a row, as “a great response” to their Europa League flop.

The Partenopei had lost here 3-1 to RB Leipzig on Thursday and were criticised in some quarters for so obviously favouring Serie A ahead of European competition.

“We gave a great response, because on Thursday we really didn’t do well,” Insigne told Sky Sport Italia.

Napoli make first Torreira offer

Napoli have reportedly made an offer for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, funding it with Amadou Diawara’s sale to the Premier League.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the first proposal has been sent to Samp from the Partenopei after weeks of preliminary talks.

With Inter hindered by Financial Fair Play and delays over their Champions League status for next season, Napoli intend to swoop early.

RB Leipzig are also interested in the 22-year-old Uruguay international, who has a €25m release clause in his contract.
