Pellegrini: 'No sleep after derby'

Lorenzo Pellegrini admits he “didn’t get much sleep” after a sensational back-heel flick goal helped Roma win the derby against Lazio.

The homegrown midfielder came off the bench when Javier Pastore was injured and made a huge difference, as he scored a remarkable finish, won the free kick that Aleksandar Kolarov converted and then put the cross on Federico Fazio’s head for the 3-1.

Pastore and De Rossi out

Roma are expected to be without Javier Pastore, Daniele De Rossi and Diego Perotti for the Champions League game with Viktoria Plzen.

The Giallorossi notched up a second consecutive Serie A victory yesterday, beating Frosinone and then Lazio 3-1.

Pastore limped off during the first half with a calf injury and is not expected to be fit for at least the next two matches against Viktoria Plzen and Empoli.

More tests are needed to ascertain the extent of the damage.

EDF: 'Roma reacted like men'

Eusebio Di Francesco said Roma “reacted as men, which is what I had asked for” after a 3-1 Derby della Capitale win over Lazio.

The team went into a training retreat for several days after the 2-0 defeat to Bologna, followed by a 4-0 win over Frosinone and this derby success.

“The decision to put the team together was to shake off fear and malcontent. We reacted as men today, which was what I had asked for,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Kolarov: 'I expected derby history'

Aleksandar Kolarov “knew sooner or later” he would make history as only the second ever player to score in a derby for both Roma and Lazio.

“The important thing was to win for us. I said before we were a strong team and we deservedly won this game,” the full-back told Sky Sport Italia after a 3-1 victory.

“We are happy with the performance, for our fans, for us and our players.”

Kolarov: ‘Wanted to be Mihajlovic’

Roma left-back Aleksandar Kolarov reveals he took Siniša Mihajlović as the inspiration for his famous free-kicks.

The Serbian is a set piece specialist, and it’s from his compatriot that he first took inspiration.

“Every time I lined up a free kick, my goal was to get my neighbours to lean over the fence and yell at me,” Kolarov revealed in a lengthy piece for the Players’ Tribune.

“That’s how I knew I really hit it well. So over and over again … big run-up, left foot, nice, dipping free kick. Bang.

WC Player Profile: Aleksandar Kolarov

It has been eight years since Aleksandar Kolarov represented Serbia at a World Cup and he’s still going strong, writes Nick Valerio.

Many thought his move to the Capital from Manchester City, where he had already once represented Lazio, showed a full-back in the twilight of his career, but Kolarov has surprised everyone with his sheer longevity.

He already made his mark on this tournament with a stunning strike against Costa Rica and Man of the Match trophy.

World Cup: Kolarov inspires Serbia

Roma full-back Aleksandar Kolarov scored the sensational winner and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic impressed as Serbia beat Costa Rica 1-0.

This was the most Serie A-centric game of the World Cup so far, as Serbia had four Italy-based players in the starting XI. Costa Rica had one and it was Bologna defender Pipo Gonzalez who wasted an early golden opportunity by turning a free header over from a corner.

Roman Evolution

The Giallorossi have hit the ground running in the off season and there is a clear pattern emerging, notes Nick Valerio.

As Carlo Ancelotti settles in to life in Naples, Max Allegri haggles with the Juventus board for a sizable war chest, last term’s third best club Roma have wasted little time in taking action in the transfer market.

With the World Cup on the horizon, the work already achieved by Sporting Director Monchi is to be admired, and there is an evident pattern in the Spaniard’s dealings since moving to Italy.
