Benatia ‘wanted Roma stay’

Mehdi Benatia has revealed that he ‘wanted to stay’ at Roma this summer, but that the club needed the money from his sale.

In his first interview since becoming a Bayern Munich player, the Morocco international spoke about a number of issues, including his split from the Giallorossi.

“I discussed my future with sporting director Walter Sabatini,” Benatia has explained to Kicker.

Benatia: Bayern the best

Mehdi Benatia has been presented as a Bayern Munich player today, explaining that he has joined ‘the best team in the world’.

The Morocco international this week completed a transfer from Roma for an initial fee of €26m and today was officially unveiled to the German media.

“I am very happy to be here, Bayern are the best team in the world,” Benatia commented to reporters.

“I cannot wait to play in the Bundesliga, for the fans and the full stadiums.

Benatia completes Bayern transfer

Mehdi Benatia has signed a five-year contract with Bayern Munich, completing his transfer from Roma.

The defender passed his medical today and was pictured on the club’s official website putting pen to paper.

It is now official: Roma have sold Mehdi Benatia to Bayern Munich with a five-year contract.

The Morocco international had been linked with Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Bayern reach Benatia agreement
