Antonio Cassano hit out at Simone Inzaghi for being an ‘over-rated’ coach despite his Inter success, then claimed Juventus boss Max Allegri is ‘protected’ by the media.

The former Roma, Inter, Milan, Sampdoria and Real Madrid star has always been a very vocal figure and therefore found success as a pundit, albeit not on the more traditional forms of media.

He was speaking at an event in Catania when asked about the Scudetto victory clinched by Inter with a month to spare.

“It’s strange that Inzaghi is being made to look like some stratospheric coach for winning this Scudetto, but I think he ought to be blamed for failing to win the last two Serie A titles against teams that were by a wide margin inferior to his own squad,” argued Cassano.

Inzaghi also won three Italian Supercups and two Coppa Italia trophies, as well as reaching the Champions League Final for the first time since 2010.

Cassano accuses Allegri of media manipulation

If Cassano was critical of Inzaghi, then he aimed most of his ire towards Juventus coach Allegri, who is widely expected to leave at the end of the season.

“There are some coaches who are protected by the press and Allegri has these four or five friends who write whatever he tells them to write,” said the former striker.

“Last season he made Leandro Paredes look like a waiter, using Enzo Barrenechea in midfield instead, then got them to write criticism of Angel Di Maria, who six months earlier had won the World Cup with Argentina.

“Di Maria is a phenomenal player, someone who this season already scored 22 goals at Benfica. Allegri is someone who wants to get the credit and asks his friends to help him stay in his job.”

Cassano had been part of Bobo TV before the bitter split with former friend Christian Vieri, so FantAntonio is set to branch out with his own version alongside Daniele Adani and Nicola Ventola.
