De Ligt wins Kopa award

Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt has won the Kopa Trophy for best under-21 player of last season.

De Ligt reached the Champions League semi-finals with Ajax last season, eliminating Juve along the way, and won a domestic double.

Those exploits earned him a move to Turin over the summer for a reported €75m.

The Kopa Trophy was introduced last year, with Kylian Mbappe winning the inaugural award, beating the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Patrick Cutrone.

Paratici: 'Juve not interested in Rakitic'

Juventus are not interested in Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, assured director of sport Fabio Paratici, but he believes Matthijs de Ligt "will become the best defender in the world."

The Croatian international has fallen down the pecking order at the Camp Nou this season and has been repeatedly linked with moves away, specifically to Juve and Inter.

“We have a great team and are not looking for reinforcements at the moment. We are strong in every position,” Paratici told ESPN.

Joao Felix wins Golden Boy Award

Atletico Madrid and Portugal starlet Joao Felix has won the Golden Boy 2019 Award for the best Under-21 player in European football.

He was a landslide winner with 332 points, followed by England’s Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund, 175 points) and Bayer Leverkusen’s German talent Kai Haverts (75 points).

Out of 40 votes, 25 put Joao Felix in first place.

The trophy is organised by Italian newspaper Tuttosport and decided by 40 high-profile writers from around the continent.

De Ligt: 'Happy to be at Juventus'

Matthijs de Ligt assured he is “very happy to be here” after another strong performance in the Juventus defence. “We’re making progress.”

Paulo Dybala’s free kick from the tightest of angles secured a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid and top spot in their Champions League group.

“We saw improvement today, although there are some aspects we need to improve both as a team and individually,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

Champions League XI nominees

Cristiano Ronaldo, Matthijs de Ligt, Kalidou Koulibaly, Fabian Ruiz and Italy international Jorginho are all nominated for the UEFA Champions League Team of the Year.

It is the 16th consecutive season in which CR7 has been nominated.

He is joined on the list of nominees by his new teammate Mattijs de Ligt, who arrived at the Allianz Stadium after a phenomenal run to the semi-finals in the last Champions League campaign.

Napoli, who have never had a player in the all-star XI, have got two players among the list of 50 nominees.

During the 3-1 win against Atalanta, the Dutch youngster showed his great potential through a key performance keeping the Bianconeri in the game before a Gonzalo Higuain inspired comeback.

Marchisio: 'Two-horse race'

Ex-Juventus man Claudio Marchisio has praised Antonio Conte for helping Inter “finding their soul” and claimed that it is a “two-horse race” in Serie A.

Inter won 3-0 away to Torino on Saturday, a result that impressed the former Italy international impressed as they continue to keep up with Juve after 13 rounds of fixtures.

Douglas Costa out for two weeks

Douglas Costa will be out for two weeks with a thigh strain, confirmed Juventus, while Matthijs de Ligt dislocated his shoulder.

The Bianconeri fought back to beat Atalanta 3-1 on Saturday, but it came at a price with new injury problems.

Douglas Costa only came on as a substitute in Bergamo, but still managed to suffer a new lesion to the right thigh.

It was confirmed by today’s tests at the J-Medical centre and a statement confirmed he will be out of action for circa 15 days.

De Ligt: 'I don't regret Juventus'

Defender Matthijs de Ligt said he doesn’t “regret joining Juventus” after Patrick Kluivert suggested he should've gone to Barcelona.
