Prandelli says no to Cassano

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has admitted that Mario Balotelli, Alessandro Diamanti and Alberto Aquilani could be named in his next squad – but Antonio Cassano won't.

The Azzurri play Romania in an international friendly next week and the new Coach will announce his 23 on Sunday.

"I said that I wouldn't call up players who behaved poorly or who comported themselves violently," Prandelli told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"When a player has been placed outside of a squad, he can't be selected for the national team.

Prandelli set to call up Balotelli

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli will call up Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli to face Romania in a friendly on November 17, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 20-year-old striker scored twice against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday only to then get sent off after kicking out at Youssouf Mulumbu.

City have chosen to appeal the decision, claiming that the incident involving Mulumbu was worthy of a second yellow and therefore a one-match suspension.

Prandelli denies Viola's Juve claims

Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli is “very upset” at Fiorentina's claims he pushed for a move to Juventus. “I actually rejected offers so I could stay.”

The increasingly bitter split between the tactician and his former club hit a new peak on Friday evening when Viola patron Diego Della Valle made new allegations.

“The Juventus owner called me to say that Prandelli was talking to Roberto Bettega about a move to Turin. I took it very badly,” said Della Valle.

Prandelli calls Cassano

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli called Antonio Cassano on Saturday night to comfort him, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Sampdoria have asked to rescind Cassano's contract after his 'gravely offensive and disrespectful' behaviour towards Riccardo Garrone.

Cassano's international future is now in doubt as if Sampdoria get support for their decision, he will also be unable to play for Italy.

La Gazzetta understands that Prandelli told Cassano that he remains one of the cornerstones of his Italy squad.
