Inter time warp

As chaos reigns and Coaches scramble to reject the Inter bench, Susy Campanale feels like we've gone back to the bad old days

There was a time, before Calciopoli, the five consecutive Scudetti and the Treble, when Inter were a bit of a joke. Their lack of success, constant changing of tacticians and the bizarre whims of President Massimo Moratti made them a guaranteed punchline for fans of every other club. Seeing what has happened since Jose Mourinho left a year ago, it's all looking horribly familiar.

Capello denies Inter job talks

England manager Fabio Capello is one of the candidates for the Inter bench. “I haven't been keeping track of what's happening there.”

The former Juventus, Milan and Roma boss had already been linked with the position before Jose Mourinho's arrival and again last summer when Rafa Benitez was called in.

With Leonardo now taking over as director general of Paris Saint-Germain, Capello is back in the Nerazzurri frame.

Talking Coaches with Capello

Fabio Capello has labelled Juventus' proposed bid for Antonio Conte as courageous, while also passing comment on Max Allegri, Leonardo, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

In an interview with Mediaset, the England boss was asked for his opinion on numerous coaching topics.

"I'd say it is a courageous choice," he said about reports suggesting that Conte would replace Gigi Del Neri at Juve.

"Sometimes such decisions are rewarded. Juve could win the gamble as Barcelona did with Guardiola.

Capello on Juve and Pirlo

Fabio Capello says Juventus must buy two or three quality players this summer, like Milan's Andrea Pirlo.

The England manager knows Juve well after appearing for them as a player and then coaching the outfit.

The Old Lady are set to renew things in the summer with a new Coach, Antonio Conte, and new squad players after a difficult campaign.

"Juventus must return to being competitive, but without rushing things," the former Roma and Milan boss noted.

Milan transfers impress Capello

England boss Fabio Capello has praised Milan's moves on the transfer market as they edge towards the Scudetto.

The Rossoneri are just a point away from clinching the Serie A title and the former Rossoneri tactician thinks their player buys, both last summer and in January, have been key.

"Their market strategy was great," Capello told the Corriere della Sera. "With Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho, the club got their campaign off on the right foot.

Capello: Watch out for Napoli

England manager Fabio Capello thinks Napoli are a team to watch out for in the title race this season.

Napoli moved into second on Sunday with a thrilling 4-3 win against Lazio.

They are now three points behind League leaders Milan with seven games remaining.

"It's all still open," Capello said. "Inter's commitments in the Champions League could be brought to bear. They will go through to the semi-finals. There is a lot of difference in quality between Inter and Schalke.

Capello: Mourinho lacks respect

Fabio Capello has hit back following Jose Mourinho's claim that he was hours away from taking the England job three years ago.

Interviewed by L'Equipe on Monday, the Special One said: "I almost signed up. But at the last moment I pulled back, preferring to wait for the right job to come along, a good club, a challenge that could motivate me. That was Inter."

Mourinho's comments were taken as a slight on Capello, inferring that the Italian tactician wasn't the FA's first choice for the position.

Capello advises Juve shop in England

Fabio Capello has apparently recommended that Juventus do their shopping in England this summer.

Reports that the England manager met Juventus President Andrea Agnelli on Tuesday evening were unfounded, but advice has apparently been sought.

Juventus would like Capello to become a technical director at the club once he quits the England job after the European Championship in 2012 and value his opinion.

Unsurprisingly he recommended players from his experience with England and the Premier League.

Bale is No 1, says Capello

England manager Fabio Capello has warned Milan that Tottenham winger Gareth Bale is the No 1 in the world in his position.

The Wales international is expected to play the second leg of their Champions League knockout tie at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.

Bale was absent with a back injury when the two sides met last month, but Tottenham still recorded a precious 1-0 victory at San Siro.

Italy caught 'Bale fever' earlier this season when the 21-year-old scored a hat-trick against Inter in the group stages of the competition.

Capello or Spalletti for Juventus

Gigi Del Neri will remain in charge of Juventus until the end of the season, but reports suggest the club will then move for Fabio Capello or Luciano Spalletti.

Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home to Bologna was Juventus' second in a row and leaves the Old Lady seven points adrift of the fourth and final Champions League spot.

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta acknowledged that everyone is now "under examination", but Del Neri in particular is up for review.
