Frosinone coach Eusebio Di Francesco feels that the 5-0 defeat to Inter is a ‘false’ result and hopes it doesn’t damage them psychologically in the battle against relegation.

The Canarini threatened to score several times at the Stadio Stirpe this evening, hitting the woodwork, forcing numerous Yann Sommer saves and denied by two goal-line clearances.

Inter had overall six shots on goal and scored five goals, they are a clinical team and we knew that,” said Di Francesco in his press conference.

“The result feels false, but we know our limitations. We need to rediscover that solidity. It might seem odd to analyse a game that ended 5-0 and say we had a good performance, but the circumstances did not go our way.”

Di Francesco saw spotlight on Inter

Inter had lost 1-0 to Sassuolo last week, a result that shook up the fight to avoid relegation and left Frosinone in danger, so this was a reaction to the criticism over that setback.

“All the talk during the week around Inter did not help us, because the spotlight was on them again and they gave 100 per cent. We’ll see what attitude the big clubs take against the other teams.”

Luca Mazzitelli went off with a thigh injury in the first half and Di Francesco warned it is unlikely he’ll be fit enough to face Monza next week.

“There must not be a psychological blowback, the objective from tomorrow is to cancel this result from our minds and rediscover the defensive solidity we lost today.

“It’s silly to concede a counter-attack when losing 4-0, we need to be more intelligent and understand when not to make certain mistakes.”

Frosinone had only a two-point lead over the relegation zone going into this weekend, so could find themselves in the bottom three.

“We proved over the course of the season that we deserve to be in Serie A and are supported by a fantastic crowd. We always showed courage, at times we make naïve mistakes, but I have always believed in this type of football.”
