“We are very proud to be here at Camp Nou, participating in the most important club competition in the world,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have respect for Barcelona, but want to play for the maximum result all the way. Messi’s presence in the line-up adds a very high level of quality to the game.

“It’s a pity that Romelu Lukaku couldn’t make it, above all because matches now last almost 100 minutes and it is important to have alternatives in the squad.

“The player has a muscular problem and as a precaution, with so many games close together at the moment, it was decided to rest him so he could recuperate fully.”

Antonio Conte said in his Press conference that he didn’t want points against Barcelona if it meant being under siege for 90 minutes.

“We are very proud of our football and can see Conte’s work reflected in the quality of our play and in the results. This group has notable margin for improvement, so step by step, we can achieve great things.

“This is an important test for the new Coach and players, as there are four new signings in the starting XI today. It’s a way of seeing how they are maturing on a technical and tactical level. I am convinced we’ll put in a good performance,” continued Marotta.

“We are doubly happy with Stefano Sensi and Nicolò Barella because they are Italian. We want Inter to give our contribution to Roberto Mancini’s Italy side.”
