Spurs: Allegri no, Mourinho yes

Reports in Italy claim Max Allegri is sticking by his sabbatical, so Tottenham Hotspur are now close to appointing former Inter boss Jose Mourinho.

Allegri was among the early favourites to replace the sacked Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, alongside Mourinho and Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira states the 52-year-old will honour his decision to take a year off.

That is helped by the fact the he remains contracted to Juventus on a salary of €7.5m after tax until the end of the season.

Sky Sport Italia, therefore, believes Mourinho is in pole position to take over at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As per the broadcaster, talks have already begun, an agreement is “now in sight” and it is “moving towards closure”.

Despite his dismissal at Manchester United last December, the Portuguese would be “ready” to work again in the Premier League.
