It comes just days after Antonio Conte’s men were knocked out of the Champions League following a 2-1 home defeat to Barcelona.

“There was a lot of disappointment, but we leave the Champions League with heads held high,” the director told Sky Sport Italia.

“Elimination is a stepping stone, we must try to find the positive in the negative, we always said this would be a slow development process and the overall situation remains positive.

“Everything can be improved, that’s natural, and there are some regrets, but the team gave all it had. Some sides are of a higher quality, Barcelona did well and won the final game.

“Unfortunately, we had the real difficulty in the opening draw with Slavia Prague, because that was our first game and very early into this new era, so we were yet to truly settle down.”

The January transfer market is about to open up and Inter are expected to be busy.

“It’s difficult to find the kind of player who can genuinely improve the quality level of the current squad. We are looking around to find anything we can use to support the team.”
